The company develops multi-generational product pipelines for feminine care. Concept design Engineer for Infant Care R&D Advanced Development activities to identify key consumer insights and product opportunities that meet the needs of the consumer. Lead programs through early development of product ideas, demonstrating proof-of-principle, and readying concepts for transfer into feasibility phase to maintain a new product pipeline to meet the needs of the Infant Care 5-year roadmap. Develop product concepts ready for transfer into feasibility phase to maintain a pipeline of new product concepts to fill the infant care 3-year roadmap.
Essential Functions:
• Lead key project work to translate consumer insights into new product ideas; develop and execute project plans that demonstrate concept viability against consumer, technical, and business criteria.
• Partner with Consumer Insights group to develop and support the execution of strategic consumer learning plans to achieve business objectives. • Voice of Consumer work to uncover unmet needs, to include focus groups, ethnography, need gap analysis, product testing, one on one interview, etc.
• Partner with internal and external design/engineering resources to generate raw ideas or concepts to satisfy those needs, and develop stimuli (rapid prototypes, models, renderings, sketches) for consumer and/or technical evaluation.
• Vet concepts with consumer/professional groups • Ready concepts for transfer into concept phase of the product development process.
• Work with the implementation team to translate product concepts into viable product designs.
• Attend Trade/Industry Shows mining for new product ideas and IP evaluation • Keep abreast of existing and new technologies that are applicable to areas of responsibility. • Suggest and participate in implementation of changes to improve the organization.
• Explain and offer guidance on routine procedures.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required on assigned projects.
Experience/Education Required:
• Bachelor degrees in Industrial Design, or equivalent degree. • Minimum of 6 years developing product concepts and aesthetic designs for consumer package goods companies • Proficiency with AutoDesk Alias, Rhino or equivalent design software.
Skills and Abilities Required
Design Skills:
• Depicts product concepts in various formats including sketches, illustrations, 3D renderings, etc • Provides creative solutions and design concepts that satisfy end user requirements • Produces reports on overall aesthetics, color, & ergonomics focused on identifying market appropriate design requirements. • Use appropriate drafting software to design and document industrial design of all company products and systems. • Must be familiar with various manufacturing processes and mold types (e.g. injection molding, blow molding, assembly methods, decoration methods, mono and multi layer film processing knowledge a plus, etc.)
• Must have the ability to manage third party relationships (e.g. outside design consultants, inventors, suppliers, etc.) • Must be knowledgeable of plastic materials.
Project Management Skills:
• Must have the ability to prioritize and organize workload on multiple programs of low-to-medium complexity. • Must have the ability to manage assigned projects, monitoring the status of all elements affecting the outcome of the program.
• Must have the ability to guide laboratory support personnel or interns as required to accomplish a task.
• Must have the ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical information via verbal presentation and in writing with management, team members and support personnel with normal supervision.
